Tom Poland: Hello everyone, a very warm welcome to another edition of Marketing the Invisible. My name is Tom Poland. Beaming out to from the sand here Little Castaways Beach in Queensland, Australia joined today by Ian Smith, a very well welcome. Where are you hanging out, man?

Ian Smith: Hey, thanks for having me. I’m over here in Orlando, Florida right now.

Tom Poland: We’re going gonna be doing this interview. The subject is ‘How to Use Facebook Messenger Marketing- in just seven minutes’. Now for those of you who don’t know Ian, he’s one of North America’s best-kept secrets. He creates and distributes video and written content for businesses specifically to increase sales and generate leads, video production, facebook ads, Clickfunnel, email marketing. I guess would be fair to say the common denominator is copywriting, Ian?

Ian Smith: I would say content in general. Yes so written and video content is what we are specializing in creating. And then we distribute that using Facebook Messenger, email, ClickFunnels. All that stuff.

Tom Poland: I think the most impressive part about your bio which is something that I had to dig for that you were too modest to promote was that you’ve got over 32,000 YouTube subscribers. Now folks that may not sound a lot. I don’t know if it sounds a lot to you enough but if you’ve ever tried to get YouTube subscribers to trust me it’s a bucket load.

Ian Smith: It is hard.

Tom Poland: Facebook fan followings over 22,000 Facebook Messenger subscriber list of over 22,000 Facebook group of over 3,000. And the big daddy of them all the grand daddy an email list of over 70,000 subscribers. So I’m interviewing someone who is walking the talk. And it’s not new to this and it has proven methodology so it’d be pretty useful to listen up. I think. Would be beneficial. So as I said the subject is How to use Facebook Messenger Marketing to get more clients. We do that in just seven minutes. Ian, our time starts now. Question number 1 is Who is your ideal client?

Ian Smith: My ideal client is somebody needing leads. So usually it’s a business that survives on leads they need to get clients. Usually, these clients are the higher ticket you know. The business that can get about three to five thousand maybe even more from their clients and so that’s why they need to first get the lead to then be able to warm up that lead.

Tom Poland: Thank you very clear. And question number 2, what’s the problem you solve for them?

Ian Smith: We help them get leads. We help to get leads at a good cost and then we help them warm up those leads and extract valuable information from that lead. So asking them qualifying questions, using strategies like Facebook Messenger, as a way to ask those questions, one at a time. Instead of doing the traditional route which is having a lead form on a landing page. We use messenger to collect all that data and information and then send it over to the client the notification email or a Google sheet or put it that email address that we collect to a messenger to send it over to their CRM or through there you know marketing software things like that.

Tom Poland: Very clever. So question number 3, is what are the typical symptoms people experience with that problem? And I’m going to have an educated guess here is one is they don’t have enough leads, but the other sounds like it’s they might be getting the leads but they’re not well filtered. Sounds like you know something you’re also taking care of is making sure that you know the lead are good quality.

Tom Poland: That I would be getting low-quality leads, low volume of leads, they’re not really answering those frequently asked questions. You can use content as a great way to answer a lot of those frequently asked questions and overall shorten your sales cycle instead of having to talk to each client for an hour or two hours. You can easily talk to them for 30 minutes because they’ve already watched previous videos up to your call and then it’s just about closing them because your content has been a majority of the selling.

Tom Poland: Thank you. Five minutes left with someone suffering from a lack of leads or they’re having the leads coming in but the fit is not right. In other words, you know they’re working, they’re dealing with a lot of people that are just perhaps don’t have the money or I just don’t have the need that that person can help with. What are some of the common things that they might try that end up in retrospect a mistake that they think Okay I’ve got to lead quality problem or got a lead quantity problem and they try stuff before they reach you and doesn’t work?

Ian Smith: Well I think they throw money at it. They try to just throw money at it try it just scream louder basically and spend more money on ads but really that’s not the problem. That’s not the solution. The solution comes down to like I said content and educating your audience better. So if you create content telling them the price point, telling them what to expect, telling them that you’re higher quality. You only work with businesses that are willing to pay a premium, then that that’s going to weed out a lot of those time wasters and those tire kicker. So content again is the foundation of what we do. Because we use content as an asset, as a leveraging tool to not only wall up that lead quality but also to answer the most frequently asked questions and to weed out the not so qualified leads.

Ian Smith: It’s very well thought out.

Tom Poland: I do think a lot of people make the mistake of thinking this is about it’s about lead gen and it’s more than that. It’s about this about the right Lead gen. So question number five is three and a half minutes left. What’s one valuable free action that an audience member could take that going to solve the whole lead gen problem but it might take them a step closer to solving that problem.

Ian Smith: Creating content, create videos. Don’t be scared to jump in front of the camera. Start talking about why you’re so great. Talk about the benefits. Talk about success stories. Show client success stories and testimonials talk about a story of how you took someone from X all the way to Y, A to Z, you know to share those stories and get it from the camera and build that trust and credibility and familiarity with them via a video.

Tom Poland: Why video in particular?

Ian Smith: The best way to build a relationship is because they see you, they hear your voice, they hear your tonality . It’s the best way to communicate with all their senses really. I mean they get you got sight, you got sound, you got the information. If it was just written then they’re not seeing the tone. They’re not really it’s not resonating as much in them. The video is a lot more engaging.

Tom Poland: I think a lot of people are put off by video because they think they have to buy a whole video studio.

Ian Smith: Yeah. And They shouldn’t feel I mean right now I’m recording with a cheap hundred dollar webcam. I have one hundred on my phone and that’s it. Yes, I have a computer but it doesn’t have to be that extravagant either. It could just be your cell phone hold your cell phone up in front of you shoot some videos and those are actually the highest performing video ads that we’re running right now. It’s just the basic selfie style videos.

Tom Poland: That true. I saw a video on LinkedIn just yesterday that had an extra number of views and it was a guy just walking through his neighborhood having a chat to a cell phone. Just under two minutes left. Question number 6, can you give us one valuable free resource that we can direct people to that’ll help them further with the Lead generation quantity and quality problem.

Ian Smith: Sure. If you’re wanting to learn Lead gen with Messenger, with Facebook ads, and I have a youtube channel you can visit that by going to bit.ly/ianytv So on YouTube TV. So Ian Y TV, bit.ly/ianYTV. You can visit the YouTube channel and get a ton of videos or if you want to get our free cheat sheet you can go to bit.ly/MCcheatsheet.Make sure that you’re logged into Facebook Messenger and we’ll send you this. PDF download and video walkthrough teaching you how to get leads using Facebook ads and messenger.

Tom Poland: And so what is at this I know you have a link set up bit.ly/MTIMessenger Marketing invisible messenger wall. What are they gonna find there?

Tom Poland: Yeah. So if they go to bit.ly/MTIMessenger, then you are gonna see our landing page talking about all the different services and how we position our Facebook ads and our messenger. That’s gonna be our main website and that’s gonna have a good amount of information about what we do with our Facebook ads and messenger strategies.

Tom Poland: Terrific. So a lot of resources the question 7, 30 seconds left. What’s the one question I should have asked you but I didn’t.

Ian Smith: I would say what kind of revenue success have you had? And I would say so far I’ve generated at least five million dollars in the last three years of doing business online.

Tom Poland: Fantastic. I mean you can’t live on five million dollars but it’s a good start right. Here. Exactly. Ian, thanks so much for your time.
