Greetings everyone and a very warm welcome to another edition of Marketing The Invisible. My name is Tom Poland, beaming out to you from Little Castaways Beach in Queensland, Australia, joined today by Jackie Lapin. Jackie, good day. A warm welcome from down under! Where are you hanging out?

Jackie Lapin 00:23
I’m in Westlake Village, just outside of Los Angeles, on the way to Santa Barbara.

Tom Poland 00:28
Just over the other side of that little pond between us. Well, hands across the water and all that. Folks, for those of you who don’t know Jackie, she’s the Founder of SpeakerTunity. And that amalgamation of two words, “speaker”, “opportunity”, should give you a clue that she’s sort of marketing through very well. SpeakerTunity is the speaker and leader resource company providing leads, speaking leads, tools, and training to get booked for speaking on multiple platforms COVID or no COVID, we’re in business, baby! And you don’t need to do any research on your part. Now, have a look at the resources at speakertunity.com. And they’re pretty extraordinary, Jackie. Congrats on putting together such an amazingly well-thought-through sea of resources for speakers to get more gigs. Let’s move past that, and let’s introduce the title, which, folks, is, “The Art of Getting Booked Everywhere”. And Jackie’s going to tell us how to do that in just seven minutes. Jackie, our seven minutes start now. Question number one is who is your ideal client?

Jackie Lapin 01:36
Anybody that needs to get in front of an audience to grow their business, Tom, and that could be coaches and leaders and experts and entrepreneurs and authors. But if you need people to buy your stuff, hire you, and you need to get in rooms to do it, that’s my client.

Tom Poland 01:51
Perfect. Thank you very much. Very succinct too. Question number two, six and a half minutes left, what’s the problem you solve?

Jackie Lapin 01:59
Well, most people need more clients. And if they’re not getting enough clients, they need to get on stages of some shape or form. And the more you get on, the better! So, you really need to be versed in all the different kinds of stages. And that includes live and virtual stages and podcasts and radio shows and virtual summits and TEDx’s and even virtual networking.

Tom Poland 02:21
Got all the bases covered. Thank you for that! Six minutes left. Question number three, let’s get into some nitty-gritty. We’ve got someone listening to this, what are the typical symptoms that they’re experiencing right now, which would kind of give them a heads up that they need to get to your website or talk to you?

Jackie Lapin 02:38
Well, they’re frustrated because there’s nobody out there to book for them because most of those people have disappeared out of the business. And they need to do this themselves, and they don’t know where to find it. And so, they are stuck on how to do the research, where to do the research, and we’ve done it all for them. So, we really make it easy, so they don’t need to suffer. And boy, I see a lot of people suffering from that. And they’re also frustrated at the fact that there are stages out there that other people are getting on to that they’re not! So, this solves that problem.

Tom Poland 03:11
Yeah. Okay. And that would be kind of annoying. And very often they’re looking at those people who are getting onto the stages, and they’re going, “I think I’m better than them.”

Jackie Lapin 03:18
Exactly.

Tom Poland 03:20
So, let’s go to question number four, five minutes left. You know, our listeners are, by and large, pretty smart people and their goal-focused, etc. They understand there’s a gap between the number of bookings they have and the number of bookings they want. And they’re going to try stuff. So, what I want to know now from you is, what are some of the common mistakes that you’ve seen folks make, trying to get those gigs before they find your solution?

Jackie Lapin 03:44
Well, the two problems that people most experience are when they’re trying to pitch themselves, they’re talking about how fabulous they are. They are not really addressing that this is all about the audience. And when you’re proposing yourself to a booker, it all has to be about what you’re bringing to the table that’s going to change lives and move people forward. The second mistake that they make is that they say, “Okay, I’ll get to this sometime this week.” And of course, they never do because there are so many other priorities in their life. So, in order to make this work, you actually have to commit time to it. And you know, one of the tips that I recommend is that you actually book time in your calendar, like three hours a week in order to make that happen. And then you start a concerted effort going after those people in a way that you can track them and know which ones you’re going to be doing and what you’re going to be sending.

Tom Poland 04:39
That’s- you might have answered my next question, but let’s check-in. So, the booking of the three hours a week, it’s something that I forced myself to do and I don’t know who told me to do that many years ago. And I used to sit there at the start of the three hours and go, “What the heck am I going to do?” But you’re forced to think about doing your marketing because you got the three hours booked aside. I was going to ask you the next question, and three and a half minutes left. Question five, one valuable free action like a top tip, like the three hours. Do you have another one?

Jackie Lapin 05:06
Yeah, I do. Find three national organizations that are aligned with your business. Go mine that particular organization for all the chapter heads all across, whatever part of the world you’re in, and then send them all a pitch. So, you know that you’re really starting the ball rolling, but do it within one or two or three organizations so that you can see how it works, and then you can move on to other organizations.

Tom Poland 05:32
And these will- you mean like, speakers bureaus. Is that what you’re talking about?

Jackie Lapin 05:35
No. I’m suggesting that you might find like, you know, something like Elle, which is a women’s business organization or-

Tom Poland 05:44
Ahh! People are going to be looking for speakers regularly?

Jackie Lapin 05:45
Yeah!

Tom Poland 05:46
Right. Gotcha. Okay. Thank you very much! Yeah, so we’ve got all these organizations, they generally feature a speaker, I should say. Who are they? And let’s get in touch when this chapter hits. So, let’s help folks, even more, two and a half minutes left. Question number six, give us a valuable free resource where people can go to. And I know, as you’ve said, you got a whole ocean of it, but where do they go to find out more and get more resources?

Jackie Lapin 06:09
So, let’s just say that they are on a stage and they want to capture somebody, either- whether they’re doing a sales pitch, which is perfectly fine. Selling from the stage, enrolling from the stage, inviting from the stage. But sometimes you don’t have that opportunity. Give them a freebie from the stage, but choosing what freebie. If you think it’s just an E-book or a private consultation with you, you are way behind the times. So, I’ve got a resource called, “44 Ways to Seduce Your Next Client from Stages, Podcast, Radio Shows, Virtual Networking, and Virtual Summits“. And you can get that by going to the- what you have right there, as the place to locate it

Tom Poland 06:50
SpeakerTunity. So, speaker and then T-U-N-I-T-Y.com/seduce. 44 different ways to seduce your next client and it’s completely free. So SpeakerTunity.com/seduce. Thank you very much! 70 seconds left. Question number seven is what’s the one question I should have asked you, but didn’t?

Jackie Lapin 07:13
What are the tools that you need to actually be effectively getting yourself booking? One of those rare examples of speaker one sheet, which is really important, and it should be slick and beautiful and have a lot of really important information that showcases you fabulously. And when you’re pitching a podcast today, you can either use a full radio media tour or radio tour pitch letter, or you can actually do a podcast introductory sheets. Those two tools are really helpful. And if you’re also booking yourself for speaking engagements, a great video of yourself is really important and not two hours, not more than three to five minutes, because they don’t have time to see anything more than that.

Tom Poland 07:52
Perfect! Jackie Lapin, 20 seconds to spare. Thank you so much for your advice and your sage wisdom.

Jackie Lapin 07:58
Thank you, Tom! Delighted to be here.
